Today's (Saturday) Gospel, from St. John 13, records Jesus' "new" commandment to His disciples to love one another as He has loved them. In this Gospel this account replaces the institution of the Supper in the first three. It is the fourth evangelist's coloring of the Sacrament, providing of an imagery by which Jesus means to tell what the Sacrament provides, namely the "new" testament in the blood of Christ, which provides the unity of love to God and to each other.
