Here are all the programs we've put up on the web since January. The most recent, which is last on the list, is for Quinquagesima (February 22) and the coming of Lent. Have a listen:

Pr. Eckardt,

I just listened to your Feb. 22nd broadcast and really enjoyed it.

Do you have any advice or guidelines on how/when to fast during Lent if one never has before?

Here's a list of things worthy of omitting during Lent, which you may consider (any or all). This is a pretty comprehensive list, in no particular order, and therefore only partially a recommendation; determine for yourself how much of it to undertake:

Sweets

Sugars

Dairy products

Eggs (a particularly helpful item, from which the tradition of Easter Eggs arose)

The meat of four-footed animals (on Fridays, or on Wednesdays and Fridays, or throughout Lent, as was the requirement in earlier times)

The meat of birds (on Fridays, or one Wednesdays and Fridays, or throughout Lent, as was the requirement in earlier times)

Alcoholic beverages

Snacks between meals

Add to this list the following:

Weddings
Parties
Orgies (read 'spring break')

Let's see, did I forget anything?
